WHAT WE DO
Religious Education Support provides the following support to teachers of Religious Education:
1. Continuing Professional Development courses
Cluster-based evening courses to support teachers in the implementation of the R.E. syllabus for Junior and Leaving Certificate. These courses are provided through local Education Centres. CPD courses address syllabus content, teaching approaches and the sharing of expertise among course participants. A full range of new support materials is made available on CD-ROM for those teachers in attendance at out courses. Samples of same are uploaded to our website at a later date.
2. School visits
A limited number of school visits may be available (as resources permit) for principals / teachers wishing to
introduce Junior / Leaving Certificate R.E. Please be aware that no substitution cover is currently available
for school visits. Requests for school visits must be submitted in writing to the R.E. Administrator in Co. Wexford Education Centre.
3. Responding to support queries
Teachers of Junior and Leaving Certificate R.E. are welcome to ask questions on the website forum. Questions might relate to syllabus content, teaching approaches, Journal Work / Coursework, homework, assessment for learning etc. Here you may receive replies not just from the site administrator / moderator but also from other teachers who have registered to use the forum. Administrative queries (e.g. booking forms for courses etc) should be directed to the R.E. Administrator, Ms Angela Thompson on 053 9239121 or email angela@ecwexford.ie
4. Journal publication
The publication of the journal ‘Teaching Religious Education’ has proven to be tremendously popular as a teaching resource for R.E. teachers. All teachers of R.E. (exam subject) are invited to submit articles, news etc in this publication, and contributions from students are also welcome. Previous issues of ‘Teaching Religious Education’ are available to download from the homepage.
5. Research & development of new support materials
On going work is invested in researching and creating new support materials, particularly supporting teachers of Leaving Certificate R.E. A selection of relevant materials created for cluster-based courses are now available to download from this site. The full range of new support materials is made available on CD-
ROM to teachers attending our evening workshops.
