Welcome to Religious Education Support
From 1st September 2010 the National Support Officer for R.E. will move to a new position
in Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST). Religious Education Support will thereafter join the suite of subjects that form ‘Cultural and Environmental Education’ in PDST. The National Co Ordinator of Cultural and Environmental Education, Conor Harrison, will assume responsibility for the management of Religious Education Support. I wish him every success with the addition of R.E. to his suite of subjects that he will manage.
Conor will be assisted by an Associate Trainer and the Support Team for R.E. as well as the R.E. Administrator, Angela Thompson. If you are a teacher of R.E. and have any questions or queries related to the teaching of Junior or Leaving Certificate Religious Education (for State examination) you may register on our Forum on this site and enter your question there where it will be addressed by a member of the Support Team. The Forum also allows other registered R.E. teachers to respond to your question, thus sharing collective expertise.
The role of Religious Education Support may be outlined as follows:
- Provision of CPD workshops related to Junior and Leaving Certificate R.E. (JCRE & LCRE), provided through the local Education Centres.
- Support for schools introducing JCRE / LCRE for the first time
- Publication of our professional journal ‘Teaching Religious Education’
- Dealing with queries through our online Forum on http://www.ress.ie/forum/ and management of our website
- Liaising with principals, teachers, DES, the RTAI, and other educational partners.
Each aspect of this service is provided according to the resources available to the service.
The Support Team of Local Facilitators is largely responsible for compiling new support materials which can only be made available at our evening workshops. The team are also involved in the facilitation of these workshops. Please give them your full support in their efforts to contribute to the continuing professional development of teachers of JCRE and LCRE.
See our ‘Contacts’ link at the top of the page should you wish to contact us.
With every good wish.
